Coach Liam confirmed that the senior midfielder was injured

Carlos Corberan will make a call on Semi Ajayi after West Brom training on Friday afternoon as to whether the centra half features against Middlesbrough at The Hawthorns on Saturday afternoon. Ajayi suffered a minor ankle injury in the 1-1 draw at Leeds United last Friday and he hasn’t trained normally all week – but the Nigerian international will join his teammates in their pre-match preparations on Friday.

Ajayi, who turned in a man of the match performance in Albion’s last home game, the win over Swansea City, has been playing on the right of a back three in the last few weeks and provided he comes through training without any unforeseen issues ahead of the welcoming of Boro, then he will again be involved

“Everyone was fine after the game,” Corberan said. “Ajayi had a little problem with his ankle and he couldn’t complete a normal week of training. He will train today, if he trains today he will be ready for tomorrow. We will look after practice because after last week’s game he felt some pain that didn’t go away.

“We decided to take him out of the group for a few days to train with the physios and then train with the group today. If he trains with the group today, he will be on the field tomorrow

Albion are still without the long-term absences of Adam Reach, Daryl Dike and Martin Kelly, but Grady Diangana is closer than ever to returning to the matchday squad. He has been introduced for first-team training, but Albion remain patient and are targeting hosts Huddersfield on Saturday as a chance to reinstate him.
The idea was to get in after the international break with the team,” Corberan added. “Then we understood that maybe the game before that – the next game we’ll play [Huddersfield] – it could help the team, But he has accelerated that process and that makes us think that even for this game, Middlesbrough, he might be ready. “If he was ready to play in the match, we should have significantly reduced the amount of training he was doing. From a medical and physical standpoint, they understand that he needs to train more with the team, accumulate more training sessions with the team this week and then manage better the next time.

“If next week he does well, he can take part the following week, because this week we prioritized training volume with the group – he trained a lot individually and there was a difference – and next week I will practice to become match-readyGrady Diangana - Player profile 23/24 | Transfermarkt
