jubilation as unbelievable game at The County Ground proved to be a 5-3 thriller,

An unbelievable game at The County Ground proved to be a 5-3 thriller, which resulted in a big win for Town.

Michael Flynn made one change to the starting 11 as Jake Cain came in for Saidou Khan who is away on international duty with Gambia, meaning the extra space on the bench was given to academy product Josh Keyes for his first taste of a matchday squad in the league.

Town started the game nicely as Jake Young opened the scoreboard within five minutes from kick-off, Young sprinted down the left-hand side of the box and managed to time his effort perfectly as it rolled under Jack Rose into the goal.

The second goal came about ten minutes after Dan Kemp found Jake Cain on the edge of the box who took the ball well and sent it into the bottom corner to score his first of the season.

With Town dominating the first half there was a selection of opportunities as Cain almost got himself a brace on his first start of 2023/24.

Goal number three was scrappy as the ball fell to Charlie Austin in the box multiple times, with all his efforts blocked, it then fell to Young who fired it into the back of the net to get his second.

Though within the space of five minutes, Sutton brought two back, right before half-time.

Half-time: Swindon Town 3 Sutton United 2

The beginning of the second half saw two disallowed goals for Town both coming from Charlie Austin, both offside.

Ten minutes later the fourth went in as Dan Kemp followed a ball through into the box and sent it over the top of Jack Rose, the ball bounced off the crossbar and across the line.

Not long after, ex-Swindon Town, Harry Smith scored and made the deficit one goal less.

Incredibly Rushian Hepburn-Murphy scored the fifth and final, as he dribbled past the Sutton defense, missing about four challenges to stop his run and calmly sent it into the bottom corner.

Swindon Town will now reflect and look forward to playing Walsall at home next Saturday.
