Victor Orta was heavily criticized for leading Leeds United to relegation last season, and while he made many mistakes at Elland Road, enough time has gone for people to see that he wasn’t entirely to blame.
Whatever your opinion of Orta’s final year or so at the club, he performed some excellent work at Leeds before everything went south.
There are still a handful of players at the club who have to be categorized as cheap acquisitions, and Orta was the one who found players like Raphinha and Ben White.
Angus Kinnear listed a couple of these players on The Square Ball Podcast, suggesting that Illan Meslier and Willy Gnonto are among them.
£20 million player Struijk
The Dutchman was one of the players mentioned by Kinnear as being valued roughly £20 million.
“We have some really good players. even in the current squad we have. We paid virtually nothing for Pascal Struijk, Meslier, Summerville, and Willy Gnonto. We also paid virtually nothing for Willy Gnonto. “We received offers up to that level, and they’re all players worth £20 million,” Kinnear added.
It must be noted that Valuable Struijk has not performed well during the past two years, but at the end of the day, he still possesses a very valuable set of qualities.
He is left-footed, physically fit, quick, and not too shabby with the ball either.
Struijk may be a very good Premier League level defender if he played in a backline that was a little bit more organized, but regrettably, he hasn’t recently displayed his skills consistently.
Leeds obviously place a high value on him, therefore the Whites could be able to sell him off if they need to balance their budgets in the summer.
