Birmingham City boss John Eustace – a former Rangers trialist in his playing days – is rumoured to be a potential target.
The Daily Mail reported on Wednesday that Eustace is a contender if Rangers make a change – and Birmingham City appear to have plans of their own.

The Telegraph now report that Birmingham’s American owners are already considering replacing Eustace anyway.
The 43-year-old is doing a fine job at St Andrew’s, with the Blues currently sitting fourth in the Championship table.
However, the US owners want a big-name appointment and could still axe Eustace despite his unbeaten start to the season.
The name Birmingham want is Wayne Rooney, who is currently in charge of MLS side D.C. United.
It’s stated that checks have been made on Rooney amid links to Rangers, with Garry Cook a key factor in their interest.
Rooney is frustrated at a lack of progress over a new contract and that means Birmingham are exploring a move.
Rangers fans may be baffled by rumoured interest in a manager Birmingham may look to replace anyway, but this is a situation to watch closely.
