According to reports, Aston Villa was prepared to break their previous transfer record in order to get Juventus winger Federico Chiesa.

The 25-year-old Italian was linked with a move to Villa over the summer, but nothing came of it, and he remained with Juventus.

However, Romeo Agresti of Goal has provided an update on Villa’s efforts to sign Chiesa, so it wasn’t for lack of trying.

No shortage of English interest, it was claimed, and Villa intended to “put about €70 million in the pot” to recruit Chiesa from Juventus. However, despite their efforts, no conversations ever “came to fruition”.
