Late bid for a Crystal Palace star from Newcastle United was turned down.

According to sources cited by Football Insider, Newcastle United’s late offer for Crystal Palace player Joachim Andersen in the summer transfer window was turned down.

In the final stages of the transfer window, manager Eddie Howe wanted to reinforce his back line and approved a deal for the 27-year-old international from Denmark.

Newcastle made an offer, which Palace rejected despite it being thought to be in excess of £30 million.

As a result, the north-east giants failed to sign a replacement for regulars Sven Botman, Fabian Schar, and Dan Burn at centre back during the course of the summer.

Sandro Tonali, Harvey Barnes, and Tino Livramento were the three high-profile additions. Left-back Lewis Hall arrived on loan from Chelsea, and 18-year-old forward Yankuba Minteh also joined.

Howe reportedly intended to replace Jamal Lascelles, a veteran 29-year-old who came off the bench for 16 minutes of last weekend’s 3-1 loss to Brighton, with a better player during the summer.

For that game, Schar and Burn were teamed in centre defence because star player Botman was out due to an ankle injury received during the loss to Liverpool the weekend before.

Newcastle attempted to sign Andersen while searching for a dependable center-back with Premier League experience.

The Dane, who spent a season on loan at Fulham before joining Palace in the summer of 2021 from Lyon, has had a significant impact on the team.

He has played every minute of the London club’s four Premier League matches this season, and 76 times in all during his two years at Selhurst Park.

Andersen has three more years remaining on his Palace contract.
