Manchester United youngster ‘received proposals’ from West Ham and Burnley – Interest in transfer revealed
Alvaro Fernandez, a young player for Manchester United,’received approaches’ from Burnley and West Ham United this summer before electing to join Granada in returning to Spain.
According to Ideal, who covered the player today and his decision to take a loan to return to his native country at the end of the transfer window, that is the case.
Fernandez had returned to Manchester United after spending the previous season on loan at Preston North End, but Erik ten Hag did not have plans for Fernandez this year given the availability of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.
Therefore, a short-term move away from Old Trafford was suggested during the summer but didn’t materialise because Shaw and Malacia’s injuries left Manchester United short.
They ultimately approved a loan agreement for Sergio Reguilón from Tottenham and subsequently approved a loan agreement for Fernandez to join Granada in Spain.
However, it appears that they were not the only choice for the young player as Ideal write that Fernandez also’received approaches’ from Burnley and West Ham in the Premier League, as well as Las Palmas and Espanyol in La Liga.
It is the first time that the latter two have been connected in any way, and while Burnley’s interest is not unexpected given that they only have Charlie Taylor in the position following the loss of Ian Maatsen, West Ham’s interest is unanticipated given that they have Aaron Cresswell and Emerson Palmieri at their disposal.
Although it isn’t made clear what their plans entail, Manchester United
values the young player at €7 million, so possibly full transfers rather than loans were in the cards.
In any case, the teenager ultimately decided against joining either and instead went back to Spain, where he hopes to continue growing and eventually return to Old Trafford to contend for a spot.
