Mason Burstow, a young Chelsea striker, has signed a season-long loan with Sunderland
With the loan signing of teenage Chelsea striker Mason Burstow for the remainder of the season, Sunderland has completed their first deadline day acquisition. The Black Cats’ striker deficit is getting worse as Ross Stewart is expected to sign with Southampton, but they have now added 20-year-old Burstow, who earlier this summer piqued the curiosity of AC Milan and can add further firepower.
Burstow missed the cutoff for this weekend’s games at 12 o’clock, therefore he won’t be allowed to play against Southampton at the Stadium of Light tomorrow. Before joining Charlton Athletic in 2020, Burstow rose through the ranks at non-league clubs Welling United and Maidstone United. From there, he signed on with Chelsea in February 2022, however he spent the rest of the campaign on loan at League One’s Charlton.
He played for Chelsea’s U21 team for the most of the season and registered 10 goals in 25 Premier League 2 appearances. He has played for the Blues in the Premier League as a substitute a few times this season, and on Wednesday night, he got his first start for the team, helping Chelsea defeat AFC Wimbledon in the Carabao Cup.
Nazariy Rusyn, a former Ukraine U21 international who is believed to have traveled to Wearside and undergone a medical, is also being pursued by Sunderland.
