‘incredibl player’: Wolves admire £20m striker who Pep Guardiola once called ‘incredible’
Wolves reportedly admire Leicester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho – but think he is currently priced too high.
Wanderers are a very busy club right now, with around three players pretty much certain to come in.
Tommy Doyle, Santi Bueno and Enso Gonzalez are all expected to complete moves to Molineux.
And then, there is further interest in Strasbourg duo Habib Diarra and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde.
But apparently Wolves do like Iheanacho, but it seems a move at this moment in time isn’t too likely…
Wolves admire Kelechi Iheanacho and also Che Adams
According to Mail journalist Tom Collomosse, Wolves admire Iheanacho along with other Premier League clubs.
But at the moment, Wanderers deem the £20 million asking price that has been set for the Nigerian too high.
But Collomosse says that he is ‘one to watch’.
As is Southampton striker Che Adams, who has been loosely linked with Wolves over the summer.
Like Iheanacho with Leicester, Adams suffered relegation with the Saints last season and will likely be keen to get back in the Premier League.
Iheanacho would be a great signing for Wolves, but it feels unlikely
It will be really interesting to see if Wolves decide to make a late play.
But at the moment it doesn’t feel particularly likely.
Fabio Silva and Sasa Kalajdzic are both off the mark now this season, and Gary O’Neil also has Matheus Cunha to use in the final third.
A move for Iheanacho would probably not go down very well with Silva’s team.
But Iheanacho – called ‘incredible’ by Pep Guardiola in 2021 ahead of a match between the striker’s current club and Manchester City – is a decent finisher who has scored goals in the Premier League.
Guardiola really liked Iheanacho as a player. But he just couldn’t hand him the minutes he needed: The Spaniard added: “The quality was there, he was a young player here and I believe in that moment with Gabriel and Sergio we didn’t have much space. He is a fantastic person, we had a good relationship, and I’m delighted it’s going well lately.”
Iheanacho has 42 goals in the Premier League in 196 games, and also 28 assists.
Realistically, a £20 million price tag probably is too high, for a Championship player with just one year left on his contract.
