Five signings Celtic could complete between now and the transfer window deadline

Celtic have less than four days to add to their first-team squad and change the perception of the summer window.

As things currently stand, the Hoops squad is weaker than it was when Brendan Rodgers entered the building. That’s not just our opinion, it’s something Rodgers admitted himself last week.

Jota, Aaron Mooy and Carl Starfelt have all departed the scene for various reasons. The likes of Maik Nawrocki, Hyunjun Yang and Odin Thiago Holm have arrived but the majority of our recruitment has consisted of project signings.

With a number of key personnel currently out injured there really is an onus on the club to complete some much needed business before the midnight deadline on Friday.

Luis Palma is certainly someone we expect to be signing on the dotted line well in advance of the deadline.

The Honduran flew to Scotland on Monday evening and the club hope they can get him signed, sealed, delivered and in training with a view to facing Rangers on Sunday.

Given that his father, current manager and ex-club have all referenced him signing for Celtic you can mark this one as a nailed-on certainty. If there is such a thing with Celtic transfers.

Brondby striker Mathias Kvistgaarden is another who the club would like to sign. Our interest in the youngster is real with a report in Denmark saying that we’ve already had a bid of around £4m rejected.

The Superliga side reckon they can get more than that for Kvistgaarden. With his stock likely to rise in the coming months, now may be the time to stump up the cash and make the signing.

As the deadline approaches and desperation grows we may well see a loan signing from Manchester City arrive. With a move for James McAtee looking less likely, fellow City youngster Tommy Doyle could be a goer.

Wolves attacker Daniel Podence could still be the box-office signing the Celtic support have craved all summer. The 27-year-old is known to Rodgers from his time down south.

With his contract at Molineux up in less than a year, there would be hopes that we could sign him on a cut-price deal. Being honest, a transfer does look a tad unlikely at this stage but stranger things have happened in the closing days of the window.

Finally, at left-back, Nantes’ Quentin Merlin was someone the club were said to be showing “strong interest” in a fortnight ago. Things have gone a little quiet since then but a reported £7m is more than affordable for us.

With Greg Taylor not doing it at present and Alexandro Bernabei’s situation not totally clear, it is a position that could do with a top addition.

The centre of defence is also an area we know the club are keen on amid our injury situation. At the moment there are no names to discuss there but that is likely to change very soon.
