Sunderland target Nazariy Rusyn has been left out of the squad for Zorya Lugansk following speculation linking him to a £2.5 milllion move to the Black Cats, according to the Sunderland Echo.

The Ukrainian is in demand following a superb season for Zorya, which saw him net 13 goals in 30 appearances whilst also chipping in with six assists.

The 24-year-old forward has been heavily linked to a move to the Stadium of Light after a breakthrough in negotiations seemingly greenlighted a move for the player a matter of days ago.

The player has now been left out of his side’s squad, which could indicate that there is truth to the rumours and that a move could be imminent

Manager Nenad Lalatovic has however countered this suggestion, informing the press that Rusyn missed out through injury rather than a potential move. This is often a common stance for some managers in these situations who are unable to discuss a proposed transfer so deflect attention away.

Sunderland are still looking to add to their front line after losing the likes of Manchester United youngster Amad Diallo as he returned to his parent club.

They sit in 18th having only taken four points from their opening four games with their only victory coming against Rotherham United. They recorded a 0-0 draw with play-off finalists Coventry City yesterday and will be hoping to turn around their form.

Whilst this does not mean that the player is packing his backs ready to fly to Sunderland, it possibly gives an indication that there is a move in the offing.

£2.5 million is a decent deal for the Ukrainian side and, with little time left in the transfer window to risk an injury to the player would be poor business. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him unveiled at the beginning of next week after negotiations reached a breakthrough a few days ago.
