TERMS AGREED: Ex-Huddersfield Town man linked, ‘transfer fee agreed’, Blade in as boss

Former Terriers striker Steve Mounie has been linked with interest from the Blades, while reports claim United have agreed a fee for Anis Slimane

Sheffield United have been linked with former Huddersfield Town striker Steve Mounie. According to reports in France, the Blades have shown an interest in the 28-year-old.

Currently with French Ligue 1 side Brest, he is about to enter the final year of his contract and could be available at a knockdown price. He found the net six times in 24 appearances last season and already has Premier League experience following his spell with the Terriers.

He sseason in the top flight, helping them to 16th. He chipped in with four more the following season in a Terriers side that struggled to create chances but was well-liked by the supporters, scoring some important goals and being known for his aerial ability.

Slimane ‘fee agreed’

Brondby midfielder Anis Ben Slimane, who Yorkshire Live revealed recently was one of the first targets that United officials touched base with this summer, is wanted by manager Paul Heckingbottom.

It emerged last night that a deal was close, and it’s now being reported that a fee of £1.7m has been agreed, along with personal terms. The 22-year-old is a Tunisian international who featured at the World Cup but with only a year left on his contract with the Danish Superliga side, United have been able to pounce.

Ex-Blade in at Barnsley

Former Sheffield United defender Neill Collins has been appointed the new head coach at Barnsley. The 39-year-old featured 216 times for the Blades during a five-year spell between 2011 and 2016.

He joined North American Soccer League’s Tampa Bay Rowdies, where he then became manager and had great success. He has been handed a two-year contract at Oakwell and it’s his first job back in English football.

He replaces Michael Duff in the Oakwell dugout, who recently left for Swansea. He said: “I am absolutely thrilled to be stepping back into the EFL and even more so to be joining a club of this stature.

“Everything I do will be aimed at repaying the faith shown in me by the owners and Khaled and of course giving the Barnsley faithful a team that they can be proud of.”
