Mark Robins is set to welcome back playmaker Kasey Palmer to his Coventry City squad to face Sunderland at the CBS Arena.
The Sky Blues are also boosted by the news that wing-back Milan van Ewijk is available after limping off the field against Swansea last week with a toe injury, as the team look to register back-to-back home wins following victory against Middlesbrough a fortnight ago
Meanwhile, the City boss has provided an update on his longer term casualties Jamie Allen, Callum O’Hare and Fabio Tavares who are all back on the grass at Ryton and working towards their comebacks to action.
Palmer sat out last weekend’s 1-1 draw in South Wales due to personal reasons, but the manager revealed today: “Kasey is back and been training this week, so he’ll be involved in some capacity tomorrow, yes
Asked how close midfielder Allen is to a return to the matchday squad following his summer heart scare, Robins revealed: “Jamie has been doing some individual bits and also joined in with some passing drills. He had a tight calf yesterday so didn’t do anything on the grass but did some work in the gym instead, and I think that’s the way it’s going to be for Jamie for a bit until he can get up to speed
With the enforced time he’s had out it has suppressed his fitness and notorious energy levels but he’ll get those back, I’m sure.”
As for O’Hare and Tavares, who have been out for the last eight months with serious knee and Achilles ruptures, respectively, the City boss said: “They seem to be doing OK; on course. I don’t want to put a time on it. When they’re ready, they’re ready.”
He added: “Callum’s an excitable kid. He’s missed his football and he is delighted to be back on the grass and he’ll just want to push it through and get back as quickly as he possibly can. But there are still some hurdles that he’s got to overcome, both physical and mental – things that he’ll either get through quickly or maybe take a bit longer, which is why you can’t put a timescale on it.”
