Liverpool is likely to make a bid for the 22-year-old soon, and his asking price has been reduced.

Borussia Monchengladbach are expecting an imminent bid from Liverpool to sign Manu Kone.

Kone has been regularly linked with a move to Anfield this summer, but with just a week left of the window, nothing has materialised.

According to journalist Christian Falk though, that could be about to change. Writing for Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing today, the German reporter gave an interesting update on the Frenchman’s situation.

Manu Kone

“With [other target, Ryan] Gravenberch, they know what they’d be getting, though there’s also Manu Kone to consider,” says Falk. “I heard Gladbach is also expecting an offer from Liverpool soon because, after his injury, he’s become cheaper.

“Before a suitor would have to pay about €50m [£43m], now you can get him, perhaps, for about €35m [£30m]. So it’s up to Liverpool to make the next move. Bayern and Gladbach will be open to talks. PSG are still interested in Kone, so there could be a big competition for the player if Liverpool firmly enter the race.”

Gladbach braced for Liverpool bid

Forgive us for being sceptical, but an offer for Kone from Liverpool seems to have been in the post all summer. And yet, it’s never arrived.

With Gladbach seemingly looking for a reasonable fee for the 22-year-old, we can’t really understand why.

Perhaps he doesn’t have the star quality of other names, but Kone looks like a proper player.

Manu Kone

Capable of playing in a variety of midfield roles, he’s the kind of midfielder that Liverpool could use just about anywhere.

The France U21 international may currently be injured, but it doesn’t look like that will keep him out for long. Besides, with Wataru Endo now added and Alexis Mac Allister’s suspension overturned, the Reds have some breathing space.

They could bring him in for a decent price and give him a little time to get fit and up to speed.

As Kone is quite blatantly on the market though, there’ll be a reason for Liverpool not going in for him. Maybe it’s the injuries, maybe it’s something else. Or perhaps they’ve just been biding their time for this very moment. Let’s see where this goes.
