ESPN CONFIRMED: In a stunning turn of events that has left fans across the desert buzzing with emotion, Edmonton oilers Head Coach Kris Knoblauch has officially announced that captain, Connor McDavid will be the new….see more
After a rollercoaster week of practice sessions and injuries in the goalie department, the Oilers’ bench boss stunned reporters Wednesday morning when he revealed that McDavid — widely regarded as the best forward on the planet — would be donning the pads for Thursday’s matchup.
“Connor’s been unstoppable in every position we’ve ever put him in,” Knoblauch said with a smirk. “So, we figured… why not the crease?”
According to sources inside Rogers Place, McDavid has been quietly working with goaltending coach Dustin Schwartz on positioning, glove saves, and “how to not completely destroy his knees doing butterfly slides.”
Teammates were equally stunned.
“I mean, he already plays like three guys out there,” joked Leon Draisaitl. “Now he’s just making it official.”
Fans immediately took to social media, flooding timelines with mock-ups of McDavid in a goalie mask — and speculation ran wild that EA Sports would have to release a patch to keep up with reality.
Knoblauch, meanwhile, insists it’s all part of “embracing versatility.”
“Connor wants to win a Cup,” the coach added. “If that means he has to stop the pucks and score them, then that’s just what he’ll do.”
The Oilers are set to face the Arizona Coyotes in what’s already being dubbed “The McSave Game.”
