The property, formerly a luxurious estate in Coconut Grove, will soon be known as The Marino House, a 40-room facility that will provide temporary housing, meals, counseling, healthcare, and job placement support for young people aged 16 to 24. The initiative is part of a broader effort to combat youth homelessness in South Florida, a growing crisis that has only worsened in recent years.

A Personal Mission

Dan Marino, 63, is no stranger to philanthropy. Known for his charitable foundation that supports children with autism and developmental disabilities, Marino said this new endeavor stems from a deep concern about the lack of resources available to homeless youth in the area.

“I’ve always believed that every child deserves a safe place to sleep and a chance to succeed,” Marino said in a press statement. “Miami gave me so much over my career, and now it’s time for me to give something even more meaningful back.”

Marino revealed that the idea was sparked after a visit to a local outreach center, where he met several teenagers who had aged out of the foster care system and were living on the streets.

“I met kids who were working full-time, going to school, and still didn’t have a place to go home to at night. That broke my heart. No one should have to live like that, especially not here in our own backyard,” he added.
