The dirt track world is buzzing today after a stunning announcement from one of the sport’s most iconic names. Former late model superstar and Eldora Speedway legend Scott Bloomquist has officially returned to his old stomping grounds — but not behind the wheel.
Bloomquist, now 61, has joined Eldora Speedway in a new role as Senior Team Owner and Technical Advisor, marking a major comeback for one of dirt racing’s most polarizing and innovative figures.
“I may not be out there turning laps anymore, but my passion for the sport hasn’t gone anywhere,” Bloomquist said during a press conference at the Eldora infield. “We’re here to build something that honors the past while pushing dirt racing into a new era.”
According to Eldora officials, Bloomquist will oversee a newly formed development team, Bloomquist Performance Motorsports, aimed at mentoring young drivers and experimenting with advanced chassis designs — many inspired by his legendary “Zero” car.
Fans erupted across social media as soon as word broke. Messages poured in from across the country, with many calling the announcement “the best thing to happen to dirt racing in a decade.”
Industry insiders say Bloomquist’s return could also mean closer collaboration with major events like the World 100 and Dirt Late Model Dream, hinting that the Tennessee native might even field entries under his new team as soon as the 2026 season.
While Bloomquist hasn’t ruled out an occasional exhibition run — “just for fun,” he teased — his focus, he insists, is on shaping the next generation of drivers.
“Eldora has always been my temple,” Bloomquist added with a grin. “Now, it’s time to pass the torch — but I’ll make sure they know how to light it.”
