A wave of excitement and nostalgia swept through Rogers Place this morning as the Edmonton Oilers and the NHL community celebrated the return of a familiar face. Former head coach Dave Tippett has officially rejoined the Oilers organization — this time in a new capacity as Senior Advisor to Hockey Operations.

The announcement came early Wednesday via a joint press release from the Oilers and General Manager Ken Holland. Fans immediately flooded social media with messages of excitement and warm welcome for Tippett, who previously guided the team from 2019 to 2022.

“Dave’s wealth of experience, leadership, and understanding of the modern NHL game make him an invaluable addition to our hockey operations department,” Holland said during a short media availability. “He knows this team, he knows this city, and he knows what it takes to win.”

Tippett’s return comes at a pivotal moment for the Oilers, who continue to chase their first Stanley Cup since 1990. Known for his analytical approach and defensive structure, Tippett is expected to work closely with the coaching staff and front office in strategic planning and player development.

“It feels great to be back in Edmonton,” Tippett said with a grin. “This organization and fan base mean a lot to me. I’m looking forward to helping in any way I can as we push toward our ultimate goal.”

Fans attending morning skate at Rogers Place could be seen wearing old “Tippett Era” jerseys, cheering as news broke over the arena loudspeakers. Many long-time supporters expressed confidence that his experience and hockey IQ will provide a fresh spark for the Oilers.

With the regular season already underway, Tippett’s return adds yet another layer of anticipation to what’s shaping up to be one of the most exciting seasons in recent Oilers history.

Welcome back, Dave Tippett — the city of Edmonton missed you.
