Everton are in desperate need of a new striker, and it seems that Southampton key man  is the priority target in that area.

The Saints forward is closing in on a move to the Merseyside club following his side’s relegation from the Premier League, according to journalist Paul Brown (21 August

And that is a deal that Everton should be trying to finalise as soon as possible, with the club failing to score in their first two matches of the new league season.

They lost 1-0 to Fulham in their Premier League opener before a 4-0 defeat to Aston Villa, with Burnley the only other club in the division yet to score this season.

Worryingly, the Clarets have played just one match compared to Everton’s two, and that was against reigning Champions Manchester City.

It is already scarily similar to last time out, when only Wolves (31) scored fewer goals than the Toffees (35), as per the official Premier League website

Adams may not be the most attractive attacking player out there in terms of fan excitement, but he has plenty of top flight experience, with 25 Premier League goals to his name.

Ultimately, however, given their financial worries and attacking struggles, Everton are really not in a position to be picky.

That means that anyone will do at this moment in time, with Toffees fans simply wanting new players in the door as the current group clearly aren’t up to the task.

Adams already has three goals from his three Championship matches this season, and the Merseyside club really could do a lot worse than having him leading their line.
