UPDATE NEWS: Newcastle want to sign someone who is better on the ball than 29-year-old

Newcastle United youngster is going to get the minutes he craves away on loan this season.

It was reported on Monday that the 19-year-old could leave St James’ Park temporarily, and now a move away is on the horizon.

The midfielder joined League Two side Tranmere Rovers last season, but this time Turner-Cooke is taking his talents to Scotland.

Jay Turner-Cooke braced for Newcastle loan exit

According to Newcastle World, Turner-Cooke is set to sign for Scottish Premiership side St Johnstone on loan.

The report states that the teenager is close to joining St Johnstone, who have big plans for when he arrives

Newcastle World add that the Saints are going to give Turner-Cooke an integral role and plan to use him as a centre-midfielder.

That is exciting news for the youngster, who will be relishing the opportunity to play consistent minutes north of the border and become a central part of Steven MacLean’s team.

Turner-Cooke featured for Newcastle in pre-season and has previously been called ‘very good’ by Eddie Howe, but it is vital that he leaves the club on loan and gets senior minutes in the tank.

He would not get that if he remained on Tyneside, so it is excellent news that a loan move is on the horizon.

Some fans might have conerns about Turner-Cooke heading to Scotland, especially after Garang Kuol’s spell at Hearts. The young Aussie struggled for minutes in Edinburgh, and certainly was not considered a key player.

But things should be different for Turner-Cooke, with the midfielder braced to play every week for St Johnstone.

The move will be a great experience for him, and hopefully he returns to Tyneside a better player. Eventually he will want to force his way into Howe’s side, but that will be really difficult if he does not impress during this upcoming loan spell.Tranmere Rovers sign Forest Green's Regan Hendry and Newcastle's Jay Turner- Cooke on loan - BBC Sport

A temporary departure appears to be imminent, and let’s hope that it goes well for the young lad.
