Exclusive: Portsmouth are pushing forward with their attempts to sign Chelsea youngster Tino Anjorin on a loan deal with the Blues man having less than two years remaining on his contract

League One club Portsmouth are pushing to sign Chelsea man Tino Anjorin on a loan deal, football.london understands.

The 21-year-old spent the last season-and-a-half with Huddersfield Town in the Championship. However, Anjorin has suffered with consistent injury problems meaning he was restricted to just 17 appearances for the Terriers in that time.

With just under two years remaining on his contract with Chelsea, sources have told football.london that Portsmouth are pushing hard to sign him on a loan deal. Anjorin has plenty of interest in his signature, from England and the likes of France, Holland, Germany, Denmark and Scotland.

At 21, Anjorin still fits the kind of profile Chelsea, as a club, are looking at when it comes to players. He still has two years remaining on his current contract at Stamford Bridge, so another loan spell looks a sensible option for both parties.

The Cobham graduate still has ambitions of playing regularly for Chelsea one day. In fact, in an interview in 2022, he spoke about how those coming out of Cobham and making a name for themselves in the first-team have inspired him over the years.

“I have always watched all the former youth players at Chelsea, as well as the other ones in the team, for inspiration,” Anjorin said to The Athletic last year. “Obviously it’s because of the talent they have, how great they are. It is something I have wanted to follow since I was young.”

He also cited former Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek as one of his main inspirations. Loftus-Cheek broke through the Chelsea academy at a young age and went onto win everything he possibly could with the Blues. Not only that, but the now-AC Milan midfielder struggled with injury problems during his time at the club; something Anjorin can relate to.

“Ruben is an inspiration,” Anjorin said. “What he has gone through is similar to me. I want to overcome it and be a role model for the people below me.

“Touch wood, I want to say the injuries and the issues I’ve been having up till now will mean that I have got them out of the way at the start so I can be free of them for the rest of my playing days.

“I got to spend time with Ruben in pre-season. That was the first time I got to speak with him properly. He’s a really nice guy. Ruben is a great player so it is not a bad thing to be compared to him. But I just like to be myself, to be different.”
