Sources: Leeds United now turn attention to signing Josh Sargent
Leeds United are considering a late-window swoop for Norwich City star Josh Sargent, sources have told Football Insider.
The Whites have drawn up a striker shortlist with Patrick Bamford still injured and last season’s top scorer Rodrigo Moreno leaving for Qatar.
Sargent, 23, features on that list and could be the subject of a bid from the relegated side in the coming days.
Daniel Farke, who was appointed at Elland Road earlier this summer, is well-versed in the striker’s talents after their time together at Norwich.
Farke brought Sargent to Carrow Road in August 2021, paying Werder Bremen a reported £8million for his services.
The forward managed two goals and one assist in 11 appearances under the German before his sacking in November 2021.
Sargent is already off the mark for the 2023-24 campaign, scoring in Norwich’s 4-4 away draw at Southampton last week (12 August).
He managed 13 goals and two assists in 40 league games last season as the Canaries struggled to impose themselves on the promotion race.
The 23-year-old is also a fully-fledged United States international and featured for his country at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Sargent, who is under contract at Norwich until June 2025, has managed five goals in 23 caps for the USMNT.
He has proved a versatile option for club and country – leading the line as well as playing on both flanks regularly.
