From Hendo to Endo: Why Are Liverpool Signing Wataru Endo? | The Analyst

Liverpool are keen to follow the signing of Wataru Endo with the capture of Crystal Palace star Cheick Doucoure, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider exclusively revealed news of the Reds’ interest in the midfielder earlier this summer (17 July) as they prepared to lose Fabinho and Jordan Henderson.

Both players have since departed, while Endo, 30, was announced as a new Liverpool player on Friday (18 August).

But Doucoure remains high on the Merseysiders’ list despite the Japan international’s arrival.

However, a well-placed source has told Football Insider that Crystal Palace are set to ask for bids of £70million before entertaining parting with the Mali international.Liverpool interested in Crystal Palace's Cheick Doucoure - The Athletic

Liverpool have already failed with moves for long-term targets Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia this summer – with both players joining Chelsea after a drawn-out transfer saga.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are targeting a new defensive midfield signing as they vie to better last season’s fifth-place Premier League finish.

Doucoure signed for Crystal Palace from Lens just last summer (2022) for a reported fee of £21million.

He made a big impact in his first season in English football, beating the likes of Marc Guehi and Michael Olise to win Palace’s Player of the Season award for the 2022-23 campaign.

He earns a reported wage of £60,000-a-week on a contract which runs until June 2027.

Liverpool

Liverpool have already completed deals for Endo, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai so far this summer.

The Reds face Bournemouth on Saturday (18 August) after drawing their season-opening clash with Chelsea.
