Athletic writer Phil Hay has told Leeds United supporters to ‘keep eyes on’ a potential deal for Charlie Taylor.
Hay was speaking on the latest episode of The Square Ball Podcast, where he spoke firmly on Taylor remaining a target at Leeds during the final two weeks of the window.
Leeds’ interest in Taylor was first mentioned by Hay at the beginning of last month, with left-back still a position that requires strengthening in Daniel Farke’s squad.
Taylor has become more of a bit-part player at Burnley under the management of Vincent Kompany, but like Leeds, are also short of left-backs themselves.
Burnley have been unable to sign Chelsea’s Ian Maatsen on a permanent deal after such an impressive loan spell last season, and are yet to sign an alternative.
Hay says to ‘keep eyes’ on Leeds interest in Taylor
Burnley’s slow movement in the left-back market could be why a deal has not yet progressed for Taylor, but Hay has suggested it remains one to ‘keep an eye on’.
He said: “I think they will try and do another full-back. Keep eyes on Charlie Taylor at Burnley because they have been looking at him
Taylor, of course, progressed through the ranks of Leeds‘ academy and went onto make over 100 appearances for the first team before joining Burnley on a free in 2017.
The 29-year-old departed Elland Road in controversial circumstances six years ago but at 29, still has plenty to offer in the Championship.
Reading between the lines of what Hay has said, it feels like this is a deal that could be done once Burnley sign a new left-back of their own.
