‘cannot be ruled out’ in latest move: Liverpool look to sign£50m Wolves midfielder as destructive transfer….
Liverpool are reportedly one of a few big Premier League sides who are interested in Wolves midfielder Mario Lemina, and the transfer ‘cannot be ruled out’.
The Reds have found it difficult to convince many players to join them this summer. They have signed two midfielders – Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szobolszlai – after losing five more permanently, including Jordan Henderson and Fabinho.
They are also moving towards the signing of Stuttgart midfielder Endo. He’s not exactly a huge name, and the Reds have had to drop down from star players after it became clear they wouldn’t be able to sign them.
The pursuits of Moises Caicedo – who turned them down while a £110million agreement was in place – and Romeo Lavia – who is soon to join Chelsea after Liverpool overbid at £60million – made it clear they couldn’t convince big names in.
Another midfielder is now on their radar: Lemina. Footmercato reports three of the big six, including Liverpool, are ‘following him very closely’.
It’s stated his departure ‘cannot be ruled out’ between now and the end of the window. That would not be a surprise given Wolves are in a bit of a dire situation at the moment.
Their squad is being decimated – they’ve allowed starting striker Raul Jimenez to leave for Fulham, while receiving a big fee for Ruben Neves from Al Hilal.
Having sold Jimenez for a low price, despite struggling to score goals last season, it wouldn’t be a shock if they let Lemina go.
While Liverpool are nearing one midfield signing in Endo, a second wouldn’t go amiss, given they are essentially without an anchor in the middle at the moment.
Lemina is primarily a defensive midfielder, so it’s clear why they’re looking at him. He’s another in the bracket of not being a big-name player, but is in the range Liverpool have to look to at the moment after their previous failures.
He’d add Premier League experience in a position the Reds need, having played for Southampton and Fulham before Wolves, where he’s been since January.
If given the opportunity to play for Jurgen Klopp’s side rather than a team who look as if they’ll be battling relegation come the end of the season, he’d almost certainly say yes.
