Dutch forward Delano Burgzorg has joined Huddersfield Town on a season-long loan from German top flight sign Mainz and could make his Terriers debut this weekend
The Terriers have announced Delano Burgzorg as their third summer signing, with the 24-year-old Dutch forward arriving on a season-long loan from German top flight sign Mainz. He will wear number 7 in the upcoming campaign.
His promising form earned him a short-lived more to Italian Serie B side Spezia, but he returned to the Netherlands with Heracles Almelo just a few months later on an initial loan that then became permanent. Burgzorg moved on again midway through the 2021/22 season, moving to Germany to join his current club – again on a loan that became permanent.
A quick and versatile attacking player standing 6’2” tall, Burgzorg can play anywhere across the front line and is expected to rival Danny Ward, Josh Koroma and Sorba Thomas for a place in Neil Warnock’s starting line-up.
Town have enjoyed transfer success in the German market before, notably bringing the likes of Christopher Schindler, Chris Lowe, Michael Hefele, Elias Kachunga and Collin Quaner for the promotion season in 2016/17.

Their only previous signing from Mainz came the following year, with goalkeeper Jonas Lossl joining on an initial loan that was later made permanent; while former head coach Jan Siewert is now the head of Mainz’s under-23s side.
Burgzorg comes through the door at the John Smith’s Stadium on the heels of backup goalkeeper Chris Maxwell, who arrived as a free agent, and right-back Tom Edwards, who is on a season-long loan from Stoke City. He could make his Town bow in their Championship clash at Middlesbrough this weekend.
