Watford FC have signed striker Carly Johns, last season’s top goalscorer in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division.

Johns scored 15 times for Oxford United, as she won the division’s golden boot but her side fell two points short of Watford in the title race, with the Hornets then winning promotion via the Championship play off.

After graduating from the U’s academy team, Johns spent three seasons in Oxford’s senior side, during which she amassed 52 goals from 76 appearances.

She has already found the net for the Hornets, during the club’s pre-season friendlies.

Chelsea Women’s Charlotte Wardlaw joins Glasgow City on loan

Chelsea have loaned 20-year-old England youth international Charlotte Wardlaw to Glasgow City for the whole of the 2023/24 season.

Wardlaw can play in defence or midfield and signed her first professional contract with the Blues ahead of the 2021/22 season, in which she helped Liverpool return to the WSL.

Returning to the Reds for a second loan spell for the first half of last season, she then spent the rest of the campaign at Lewes.

Head coach Leanne Ross told glasgowcityfc.co.uk: “Although only 20 years of age, Charlotte arrives on loan to us from Chelsea with a wealth of experience from the English Championship, WSL and England youth & U23 national teams.Watford's new signing, Carly Johns

“As someone who can play in a variety of defensive positions, and play them very well, Charlotte will not only increase competition for places but will also add to the strength and depth of our squad for the season ahead.

“In playing a variety of positions, it is evident Charlotte has a good range of technical skills and tactical understanding of the game. Added to this, her bravery and tenacity will strengthen our defensive capabilities.”
