‘He’s a top player’: Max Kilman thinks 24-year-old is just ‘amazing’ when he plays for Wolves
Max Kilman has hailed Toti Gomes, after playing alongside him last night for Wolves against Luton Town.
Wolves continued their pre-season preparations, by facing the newly promoted Premier League side at Molineux.
Lopetegui made a host of changes to the starting XI after Saturday’s game with Celtic, with Kilman and Matheus Nunes the only players to keep their places.
Toti was one of nine players rotated in, and he played on the left of a back four, with Kilman to his right.
Craig Dawson dropped to the bench, but came on for Kilman with around 20 minutes to go.
Kilman, captaining the side as he has done throughout pre-season, was delighted to feature next to the Portuguese star, as the game finished 0-0.
Max Kilman sings Toti Gomes’ praises after Luton stalemate
Kilman spoke after the game about Toti, who has mainly been getting minutes off the bench in pre-season.
The former Estoril centre-back is currently third choice at Molineux.
But in Kilman’s eyes, Toti is just a brilliant performer whenever he takes to the pitch.
He said (via Wolves official): “I’ve played on the right before, so it was nothing new, and playing with Toti too, he’s a top player and when he plays he does amazing, so whoever I’m playing with it’s a great partnership with both of them.
“This is the probably the best time to try new things and take a few risks, but also making sure you’re taking calculated risks and doing the right things.”
Earlier this year, Julen Lopetegui stated after Wolves’ win over Aston Villa that Toti made the starting XI stronger.
The manager definitely thinks very highly of him, and he could have an important role to play this season.
Toti will be very important for Wolves this season
It’s nice to hear Kilman speak about Toti in this way.
The 24-year-old is a brilliant player and is probably unlucky not to feature more than he does.
Whenever he comes into the side, he very rarely has a bad game.
Toti is very assured in the way he plays. He keeps things simple and solid.
In 2023/24 he could be really important for Wolves.
We have seen Julen Lopetegui happy to move to a back three in games, and there were a few occasions last season when he threw on Nathan Collins.
Toti can, of course, also play at left-back.
So any poor patches from Hugo Beuno and Rayan Ait-Nouri and Lopetegui will be happy to stick him there.
