The 19-year-old defender has signed a two year deal, with a further one year club option, and is scheduled for his first outing as part of the club’s development squad in Monday night’s Premier League Two away game at Sunderland.

Montoia reportedly turned down the offer of a new contract at the Estadio da Luz in favour of a move to Norfolk to initially be part of Alan Neilson’s group.

Norwich have made a series of summer signings for their development set-up including Vicente Reyes, Kellen Fisher, Gabe Forsyth and, most recently, Emmanuel Adegboyega who signed from Irish side Drogheda United.

Fisher and Reyes were part of David Wagner’s pre-season plans, and have been handed first team squad numbers for the new Championship season.

Portugal under-20 international Montoia made 29 appearances for Benfica’s youth side last season – scoring twice – and also featured in the Uefa Youth

“I feel very good (to sign for the club), it’s a historical club, a big club, so I’m very excited,” he told City’s official site.

“It is a club used to being in the Premier League with amazing fans.

“It’s very important to know that you can reach your goal of getting into the first-team, so this is very important for me to know that. I come with some expecttions but I just want to play football, enjoy it, and the rest will come

“I am a full back with a lot of stamina, good at crossing, I like to shoot at goal. I spent 13 years with Benfica. I feel really blessed I spent time with incredible coaches, staff and players. Thankful to them. Of course it will be challenging to come to a new country but everyone has been very welcoming.”

Norwich City drew 4-4 over the weekend away at Southampton in the Championship.

Norwich City have picked up four points from their opening two league outings this season after beating Hull City 2-1 on the opening day at Carrow Road.

David Wagner’s side have until the transfer deadline on 1st September to conclude any final bits of incoming or outgoing business. Their goalkeeper Tim Krul is being heavily linked with an exit in the near future.

Football Insider claim he is in advanced talks to leave for Premier League new boys Luton Town to add more competition and cover to their goalkeeping department following their promotion from the Championship. The Dutchman has entered the final 12 months on his current contract and is behind Angus Gunn in the pecking order in East Anglia at the moment.

After losing Max Aarons to AFC Bournemouth, Norwich could now face a battle to keep hold of Andrew Omobamidele amid reported interest from the same club. TEAMtalk claim the Cherries have now turned their attentions to the Republic of Ireland international as they look to further bolster their defensive department after the start of the new top flight season.

Omobamidele, 21, still has three left left on his deal so his current club are under no pressure to cash in on him just yet. He broke into their first-team back in 2022 and has since played 57 games for them in all competitions to date.

The Canaries have swooped to sign young full-back Guilherme Montóia, as announced by their official club website. The youngster has penned an initial two-year deal running until 2025.Guilherme Montoia signs a professional contract - SL Benfica

The 19-year-old could be one for the future and operated at left-back. He has risen up through the youth ranks at Benfica but was released by the Portuguese giants a couple of months ago.
