Khephren Thuram to Liverpool is accelerating with the Merseysiders acting quickly to ward off interest from Premier League rivals.

Liverpool are intensifying its pursuit of the 22-year-old OGC Nice midfielder as they aim to secure his sig

nature this summer, according to Italian journalist Rudy Galetti.

The French powerhouse has garnered significant attention from the Reds, with manager Jurgen Klopp keen to bolster his midfield options.

The Reds have already made promising moves in the transfer market, securing the services of Alexis Mac Allister earlier in the summer, a signing that has generated excitement among fans.

Additionally, the club recently announced the acquisition of Dominik Szoboszlai, signalling their intent to revamp their midfield.

However, Galetti’s latest update suggests that Thuram has once again become a priority target for Liverpool. Galetti took to Twitter to reveal that the Reds are pushing to expedite the deal for Thuram, partly motivated by the emergence of potential competition from Newcastle United.

He revealed: “Liverpool are speeding things up for Khephren Thuram. LFC want to close the gap with OGC Nice soon to anticipate the competition of Newcastle, which are starting to move concretely for the player: evolving situation.”

Previous reports suggested Liverpool will have to pay €45M (£39M) to complete a deal for Thuram. Personal terms, however, have already been agreed with a major increase on his £14,000-a-week wages likely.

Thuram’s addition would provide Liverpool with a formidable presence in midfield. The young French talent showcased his exceptional skills during the 2022/23 Ligue 1 season, impressing with his pace and power.

Last season technical ability was limited in midfield. Despite being 6 foot 4, Thuram is not short on talent. He contributed two goals and eight assists to his team’s cause last season – which is more than any Liverpool midfielder player managed.

Moreover, personal terms with Thuram have already been agreed upon, as revealed by Dave Davis on the Anfield Index Transfer Podcast. This indicates a strong desire from both player and club to complete a deal.

Liverpool’s pursuit of Thuram comes as a response to the potential interest from Newcastle United.

The Merseyside club is determined to finalize the deal swiftly to preempt any competition from the Magpies, who are reportedly making concrete moves to secure the services of the French midfielder.
