Leeds United want to sign a star as £8m Everton exit news emerges

Leeds United are in the hunt to sign Everton striker Tom Cannon on a permanent basis, according to Alan Nixon.

The Sun journalist reported on Patreon on Sunday (13 August) that Preston have been trying to re-sign Cannon, 20, for a while and have been given until Wednesday to complete the deal by the Toffees.

However, it is understood that clubs could hijack Preston’s loan swoop for the Irish centre-forward by making a permanent bid for him.

Nixon claims that Sunderland and Stoke have made enquiries about Cannon’s availability while Leeds “have also been keeping an eye on developments”.

The Sun journalist adds that interested clubs are looking to pay £8million for the ex-Preston loanee, who was on the bench as Everton lost to Fulham at Goodison Park on Saturday (12 August).

Get him in

Leeds need all the firepower they can get up front.

With it looking as though Willy Gnonto will leave, Patrick Bamford’s injury issues persisting and Georginio Rutter being behind Joe Gelhardt in the pecking order, bringing in a new striker makes sense.

Cannon joined Preston on loan midway through last season and went on to score eight goals in 20 Championship appearances for them.Tom Cannon | Everton Player Profile

Before that loan move, he was on fire for Everton’s Under-21s in Premier League 2, netting seven times in 11 games.

It’s clear that this young forward knows how to find the back of the net at this level and Leeds could really do with someone like that.

Leeds’ injury issues are clearly hampering the team right now. Once Luis Sinisterra and Jack Harrison, among others, are back in action, you would assume that it’ll be a lot easier for strikers to score.

Cannon would need that but £8million for a young, up-and-coming striker sounds like a very good prospect for Leeds.

In other Leeds United news, news about a potential Sinisterra exit from Elland Road has emerged.
