Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly considering a move for Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic should Harry Kane depart this summer.
That’s according to 90 Min, with the outlet sharing an update on Tottenham’s search for a new forward player.
Kane’s future at Spurs remains up in the air as the club bid to keep hold of their all-time record goalscorer.
The Evening Standard reported on Tuesday that the 30-year-old is leaning towards staying at Tottenham after Bayern Munich’s latest offer was knocked back.
But Sky Sports claims the Bundesliga champions are preparing a new offer worth around £94.6 million, with Kane keen to determine his future before this weekend’s clash against Brentford.
And as Spurs could be faced with the possibility of replacing their star man before the window closes, the North Londoners are weighing up their options.
The likes of Gent’s Gift Orban and Nottingham Forest forward Brennan Johnson have both been heavily linked with moves to Tottenham.
Now, a new option in Aleksandar Mitrovic is the latest striker to be touted as a possible target for Ange Postecoglou.
Tottenham eyeing Mitrovic
90 Min reports that Mitrovic is on Tottenham’s radar in the event that Kane departs this summer.
The 28-year-old has already missed out on a move to Saudi Arabia this summer, with Fulham turning down Al Hilal’s £30 million bid to sign him.
Mitrovic was said to be keen on a move to the Middle East but the Cottagers refused to budge on their £50 million valuation of the striker.
Mitrovic starred for Fulham last time out as he netted 15 goals in all competitions under Marco Silva.
The Serbian striker has proven to be a real handful for opposition defenders due to his presence in the air and similarly to Kane, he has a keen eye for goal.
The Spurs News View
While Mitrovic would almost guarantee goals, he doesn’t seem like the right fit for Postecoglou’s system.
The Fulham star would provide real aerial presence up-front, but he may lack the required technical quality to lead the line for Spurs.
Tottenham also seem to be heading in a different direction under Postecoglou and have targeted younger players during his reign so far.
At 28, it’s difficult to see Spurs splashing out the required £50 million to lure him away from Craven Cottage this summer.
