Opposition Lowdown: Gary Rowett's Millwall - The Tilehurst End

Millwall take on Bristol City in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday afternoon (kick-off 3pm), in front of a packed Den crowd.

The Lions have issued the following ticketing advice to supporters attending SE16 to ensure that everyone is aware of which areas will house certain enquiries and to also ensure that all fans are inside the stadium for kick-off.

Millwall were defeated 1-0 by Bristol City at The Den on Saturday afternoon.

Matty James’ injury-time goal settled matters in SE16.

Gary Rowett named an unchanged line-up from last Saturday’s visit to Middlesbrough for the fixture, meaning that Matija Sarkic, Joe Bryan, Casper De Norre and Kevin Nisbet all made home League debuts.

After a wonderful and moving tribute to John Gregory Berylson begun proceedings, referee Keith Stroud blew his whistle in front of a packed-out Den – the action on the pitch lacked in clear-cut chances in the opening stages, however, with the first movement from either goalkeeper coming on 17 minutes as Max O’Leary had to claim Murray Wallace’s header from a Zian Flemming cross.

A sweeping Millwall move at the midway point of the half saw Danny McNamara nod into the path of Flemming – the Dutchman dummied and allowed Duncan Watmore in for a shot, but his effort was blocked by the Bristol City defence.

Nisbet hooked over as The Lions started to make headway, but the next opportunity went the way of the visitors 10 minutes from the break; Millwall’s defence, though, were able to stand firm and block from close-range.

Cameron Pring slid in to knock the first effort of the second-half wide with 48 minutes on the clock, whilst an enticing cross from former City man Joe Bryan at the other end failed to trouble O’Leary.

Bristol City captain Matty James curled wide moments after Tom Bradshaw was introduced into the action, replacing Duncan Watmore and allowing The Lions to play two up front, but a forward of the opposition’s own – Sam Bell – nearly put The Robins into the lead 20 minutes from time, only for his header to ripple the side-netting.

De Norre’s volley was wild as time began to tick away, whilst City substitute Anis Mehmeti struck across goal and wide and Bryan’s dipping volley went over O’Leary’s crossbar as the chances began to flow.

Murray Wallace then had to dive in to block a Harry Cornick attempt, before Rowett opted for a treble substitution, bringing on George Saville, Romain Esse and Aidomo Emakhu for the final 12 minutes in place of De Norre, Nisbet and Flemming.

Two minutes from time, a Millwall free-kick in a promising position saw Saville draw a save from O’Leary, with McNamara’s follow-up blocked, but deep into stoppage-time, James prodded home to win the game for Bristol City.
