North Carolina senior RJ Davis has been named the winner of the prestigious 2025 Jerry West Award, presented annually by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame to the top shooting guard in men’s college basketball. The award honors Davis’s outstanding consistency, leadership, and elite scoring ability throughout the 2024–25 season.
Davis, who returned for his senior year with the Tar Heels, was a cornerstone of UNC’s success this season. Known for his smooth shooting stroke, high basketball IQ, and clutch performances, Davis led the team in scoring while also serving as a vocal leader on and off the court.
“This award means everything to me,” Davis said in a statement. “It’s a reflection of the work I’ve put in, but also the trust my teammates and coaches had in me to lead this program.”
Throughout the season, Davis consistently delivered against top competition, averaging over 20 points per game while shooting efficiently from both the field and the three-point line. His ability to create his own shot, navigate pressure defenses, and make big plays in critical moments helped solidify his reputation as one of the nation’s elite guards.
The Jerry West Award, named after the NBA legend and Hall of Famer, is one of five positional awards presented annually by the Hall of Fame in partnership with the Basketball Coaches Association. Davis joins an elite group of past recipients who have gone on to successful careers in the NBA.
Tar Heels head coach Hubert Davis praised RJ’s growth over four years in Chapel Hill. “RJ embodies everything we want in a Carolina player. His heart, his work ethic, and his ability to rise to the moment — that’s what made this year so special.”
With his college career now complete, Davis is expected to be a sought-after name in the upcoming NBA Draft, where scouts have noted his maturity, shooting ability, and leadership as valuable assets for the next level.
