In a groundbreaking announcement that has electrified the University of Wisconsin community, head coach Kelly Sheffield has officially approved a $170.3 million renovation project aimed at transforming the home of Wisconsin Badgers women’s volleyball into one of the most advanced facilities in collegiate sports.

The ambitious project—slated to begin in summer 2026—will expand and modernize the UW Field House, the historic venue that has hosted generations of Badger volleyball excellence. The renovation will enhance fan experience, improve athlete amenities, and further solidify Wisconsin’s reputation as one of the nation’s premier volleyball programs.

A Vision for the Future

“This is the best news we could hope for,” Coach Sheffield said during Friday’s press conference. “Our players, fans, and the entire Wisconsin community deserve a facility that reflects the championship culture we’ve built here. This renovation will not only preserve the incredible history of the Field House but will propel us into the next era of collegiate volleyball.”

The project will include:

• An expanded seating capacity of over 9,000, allowing more fans to experience the program’s electric atmosphere.
• A new training and performance center, complete with state-of-the-art recovery rooms, nutrition areas, and sports science technology.
• Upgraded locker rooms and player facilities, designed with direct input from current and former athletes.
• Enhanced fan amenities, including premium seating, improved concessions, and upgraded digital displays.

Athletic Director Chris McIntosh praised Sheffield’s leadership and long-term vision for the program.

The women’s volleyball team, currently ranked among the nation’s top programs, has consistently drawn record-breaking crowds. Last season, they sold out nearly every home match, proving the demand for an upgraded facility.
