Fabrizio Romano insists Manchester United received a £30 million bid from West Ham United for defender Harry Maguire. The Red Devils are open to allowing the centre-back to depart for the right price, and talks are underway with the Hammers to find a solution.
Manchester United are desperate to conduct more business in the market, but that’s only possible through sales. After signing Mason Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund, Erik ten Hag wants reinforcements to set his team up for the upcoming season.
A few players could leave the club due to their status on the side. Manchester United have opened the doors for players like Scott McTominay and Harry Maguire to move at the right price. West Ham reportedly planned a £60 million double raid, and as per the Athletic, they have indeed made such an offer.
Fabrizio Romano points at the Hammers sending an offer for Maguire worth £30 million. Manchester United have not rejected the bid outright; instead, the two clubs are holding talks to figure out a solution.
Maguire is no longer a sure starter at the club, with Ten Hag preferring Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane. With the season being long, the England international will play 20+ games in the upcoming campaign, but not as a first choice.
Ten Hag has already identified Jean-Clair Rodibo as a replacement option for Maguire. The club will only move for the Frenchman after selling the Englishman. Romano also pointed out that West Ham have not spoken to Maguire yet, which could prove decisive.
Having seen an earlier bid rejected by Manchester United, West Ham have taken their time pushing with a new offer. Yet, there has not been much furore in the media, but the Red Devils are keen to see the player leave.
Maguire has not overly pushed to leave Manchester United. Hence there are doubts about whether he will accept a move to the Hammers. Their abject style from last season may affect the player of the England international’s stature. A move might hurt his chances of retaining a place in Gareth Southgate’s side.
Hence, there’s a lot to ponder for Maguire before deciding. First, Manchester United must agree to West Ham’s current offer or make a counterproposal to bring the Hammers in with a new bid.
The Hammers have not made any signings in this window yet and only agreed a move for midfielder Edson Alvarez earlier on Monday. David Moyes will want to add Maguire to his ranks and McTominay to strengthen the squad ahead of the season opener at the weekend.
