HERE WE GO: Newcastle need these three signings to secure another top

Alan Shearer is “confident” going into the new season – but believes it will be “very difficult” for Eddie Howe to secure another top four finish without more new signings.

The BBC pundit and Newcastle legend believes we still need a left-back, another centre-forward and a left-back, thinking a few more “big hitters” may be required to help us cope.

Shearer is still backing us to have “another very good season”, but seems to think additional quality and depth is needed, aware of the fact we’ll be competing on four fronts after qualifying for the Champions League for the first time in 20 years.Speaking on his new podcast – The Rest Is Football – alongside Gary Lineker and Micah Richards, here’s what he had to say on the new season and our transfer needs:

Yeah, I’m confident again. It’s going to be very difficult for Newcastle to go again and finish in the top four. I know they have signed a quality young midfielder in [Sandro] Tonali.

“I think they will have another very good season. In terms of doing what they did last season I think it will be very difficult for them unless in the last 10 days of the transfer window, if they go and get another two big hitters.Newcastle United will play in the Champions League for the first time in 20 years, | CNN

“They may need another centre-forward and a left-back, that would be something. And if we are being greedy another centre-half but in the rest of the positions I feel they are pretty strong.”
