TRANSFER NEWS: Aston Villa ‘monitoring’ Man City player after £77m transfer

Unai Emery: Aston Villa head coach says opportunity was too good to turn down | Football News | Sky Sports

The latest Aston Villa transfer news as Villa are one of three clubs said to be showing an interest as Man City’s transfer stance has been outlined.

Aston Villa are one of three clubs ‘monitoring’ the situation of Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte this summer, following City’s signing of Josko Gvardiol, according to reports.

Gvardiol arrived at the Etihad Stadium from Red Bull Leipzig last week for a reported £77 million. He signed a five-year contract at the Etihad Stadium.

His arrival provides more competition within the defensive ranks of Pep Guardiola’s side, meaning that they could look to move players on in the remainder of the window. According to the Mirror , one of those players will be Laporte.

The Spanish international has been at City since January 2018, winning the Premier League title five times, and being part of the squad to win the treble last season. He was named on the bench by Pep Guardiola a lot of the time during the Premier League season, making just 12 league appearances last season. He was an unused substitute for Sunday’s Community Shield clash against Arsenal.

Villa, along with Arsenal and Tottenham are named as one of three teams who are ‘monitoring’ the player’s situation. City, however, are said to be more willing to sell to an overseas club.
