In a monumental announcement that has sent waves of excitement through the NRL community, Sydney Roosters Chairman Nick Politis AM and his family have officially declared that Anthony Minichiello, the legendary former captain and long-time face of the franchise, will return to the club in 2025 as Director of Football.

Minichiello, affectionately known to fans as “Mini”, is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in Roosters history. A one-club player, Minichiello’s glittering career included 302 first-grade games, 2 premierships, and a Golden Boot Award, cementing his legacy as one of the greatest fullbacks in rugby league history.

“Anthony embodies everything the Sydney Roosters stand for — loyalty, professionalism, and excellence,” said Chairman Nick Politis AM. “His understanding of the modern game, coupled with his deep connection to our club culture, makes him the ideal leader to guide our football operations into the future.”

The newly created Director of Football role will see Minichiello oversee all on-field programs, player development pathways, and high-performance initiatives, working closely with Head Coach Trent Robinson and General Manager of Football Daniel Anderson.

Minichiello expressed his excitement about returning home in an official capacity:

“The Roosters have always been family to me. This club shaped who I am, both as a player and a person. To return now, to help shape the next generation, is an incredible honour.”

The announcement comes as the Roosters continue to build towards the 2026 season with renewed ambition and a focus on sustained success.

Fans and former teammates alike have flooded social media with praise and anticipation, welcoming Minichiello’s return as a move that strengthens the club’s legacy both on and off the field.
