new deal: Manchester United ‘considering’ move for Belgium international midfielder

Romeo Lavia, who currently plays for Southampton, is being eyed by Manchester United in the ongoing transfer window, according to the Independent.

The Red Devils are interested in acquiring the services of the 19-year-old and have joined the race for his signature. However, the Old Trafford side are not the only team keeping tabs on the Belgium international

Premier League rivals Liverpool have already taken concrete steps to sign Lavia. However, the Merseyside outfit have seen their bids for the midfielder being rejected.

Apart from Jurgen Klopp’s team, in the English top flight, Chelsea and Arsenal also have the Belgian on their radar. The Saints are looking to get £50 million for the former Manchester City star.

Having played for the Sky Blues’ youth sides, Lavia was unable to break into their first team and joined Southampton last summer. At the St Mary’s Stadium side, the midfielder was a key player, mostly playing in the number six position.

However, the Saints endured a disappointing campaign and were relegated to the Championship. Despite the Hampshire-based club’s struggles, the Belgian showcased that he is capable of playing in the PL

At United, the middle of the park has been bolstered with the addition of Mason Mount from Chelsea. The England international will arguably provide competition to Christian Eriksen for a place in the team.

As for the defensive midfield position, Casmeiro has cemented his place in the team over the last year. Unfortunately, we seem to lack adequate cover for the Brazil international in the squad.
