Manchester United are said to be considering a move for Romeo Lavia after Liverpool failed in a second bid for the Southampton midfielder. Also: the latest on Kylian Mbappe;
UNITED TO POUNCE AFTER LIVERPOO…L FLOUNDER
Liverpool have seen another offer for Romeo Lavia rejected by Southampton. And here come Manchester United to potentially gazump the Reds over the Belgian starlet.
According to The Independent, United are considering a move to steal the 19-year-old from under Liverpool’s nose after Saints snubbed a renewed bid that, initially, is worth less than £40million. Southampton are insisting on £50million for Lavia and, like other clubs, they are standing their ground as the big hitters all chase midfielders.
Chelsea face having to substantially up their offer for Moises Caicedo after The Athletic reported that an unnamed club had seen an £80million bid rejected by Brighton. Sky Sports says Chelsea will do just that, with the Seagulls seeking a fee in the region of what Arsenal paid for Declan Rice.
Arsenal are also said to be sniffing around Lavia but Mikel Arteta is more minded to move for Ajax’s Mohammed Kudus.
WEST HAM MOVE ON FROM WARD-PROWSE
Southampton are not just digging their heels in over Lavia. Saints are also standing their ground over James Ward-Prowse.
West Ham have been keen to sign the England midfielder as a replacement for Declan Rice, but Southampton know the Hammers have £100million burning a hole in their pockets. As Sky Sports are reporting, West Ham’s £30million is never going to be enough. So, apparently, David Moyes is moving on to other targets.
The Irons could bag Tyler Adams for the money they’re willing to pay for Ward-Prowse but, according to the Daily Mail, Aston Villa are favourites to land the Leeds midfielder by triggering his £25million release clause.
MBAPPE OPEN TO CHELSEA OFFER – OR SITTING FOR A SEASON
Chelsea have been distracted from their pursuit of Caicedo by the possibility of landing Kylian Mbappe. And the Blues have received some encouragement.
Sport says Mbappe has told Chelsea that he is up for moving to Stamford Bridge. On one condition…
The France star is only willing to move on a one-year contract so he would be free to join Real Madrid next year, as he planned all along before PSG vowed to shift him on this summer.
But Mbappe won’t be forced out and though Chelsea are open to discussing a one-season deal, the France star is prepared to sit in the stands until he can go free.
