PUNDIT TELLS TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR TO REPLACE KANE WITH 27-YEAR-OLD STRIKER

TalkSPORT pundit Darren Ambrose has said that Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy should try to sign Ivan Toney from Brentford as a potential replacement for Harry Kane.

The former Newcastle United player has said on talkSPORT that if Harry Kane leaves Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window, then the North London club should try to sign Ivan Toney from Premier League rivals Brentford.

Ambrose has noted that Toney will not be able to play for the first half of next season due to a ban.

The pundit would still like Spurs to try to sign the 27-year-old striker.

Football Transfers reported last month that Tottenham are interested in Toney and have identified the England international striker as a potential replacement for Kane.

Bayern Munich are reportedly determined to sign Kane and could make a third bid for the Tottenham and England international striker this week.

Football Transfers have noted that Toney is banned from playing until January 16, 2024.

Ambrose said, as transcribed by TBR: “Someone mentioned it last week, go and sign Ivan Toney.

“I know he can’t play until January, but you’ve got a proven Premier League goalscorer that can come into the team in January. 20-plus goals again.”

Ivan Toney potentially risky summer signing for Tottenham Hotspur

In our opinion, Tottenham Hotspur should not sign Ivan Toney in the summer transfer window as a potential replacement for Harry Kane.

Yes, we know how good Toney is.

And he could still get better.

After all, the Englishman is still only 27.

However, Toney would not play until January 2024.

And we cannot expect the striker to hit the ground running straight after he returns to action after serving his ban.

It could take Toney a few weeks and perhaps even months to get back to his best.Ivan Toney: Brentford lining up potential striker options for January transfer window in case striker hit with ban | Football News | Sky Sports

Tottenham simply cannot take that risk next season.

If Spurs signed Toney with a view to him making an impact in the second half of next season, then, yes, that is fine.

However, you simply cannot sell a world-class striker like Kane now and then bring in a replacement who would not be able to play until January.

You simply cannot do that.

Toney scored 20 goals and gave four assists in 33 Premier League appearances for the Bees last season.

In 2021-22, the striker scored 12 goals and gave five assists in 32 Premier League starts for Brentford.
