With the start of the 2023/24 Premier League season right around the corner, it appears that there are a pair of London clubs that are looking to make another addition to their attacks. According to Paul Taylor of The Athletic, Brentford FC, and Tottenham Hotspur are pursuing Nottingham Forest player Brennan Johnson.

Nottingham Forest Reject Bid from Brentford
The Bees have already spent £55 million this transfer window, breaking their club transfer record twice already via Kevin Schade and Nathan Collins. Despite this, the West Londoners are continuing to be spenders as they just had a £35 million bid (plus add-ons) rejected for the Welsh international.

Since the Garibaldi’s value the 22-year-old at a hefty £50 million, the 9th-place finishers would have likely to aim for a compromise somewhere above £40 million if they wish to acquire the player Steve Cooper labelled as “fantastic”.
How Do Tottenham Play Into This?
Spurs have already boosted their offensive ranks this window with the additions of Manor Solomon and James Maddison, as well as the permanent signing of Dejan Kulusevski. This being said, going after the right-footed winger wouldn’t make much sense at this point, especially since they have a glaring need at centre-back. If the Lilywhites decide to advance in their efforts to sign the forward and they fail to boost their defence in any way – fans will surely be irate.

The Likelihood Johnson Leaves
Unless Brentford makes another bid that’s considerably higher than their previous one or Johnson hands in a transfer request, he probably stays where he is for the upcoming Premier League season.

However, his abilities, combined with his young age, will surely make him a favourable target for other clubs higher up the table. If he continues to provide high-quality performances, it will only be a matter of time before someone meets the price tag that has been set on him.

Niklas Johnson

Despite living in the United States, he’ll gladly wake up at 5:00 in the morning to watch his favorite North London team play. Niklas cherishes the day that Spurs win a trophy…however far away that may be.
