Tottenham are reportedly keeping tabs on Nottingham Forest star Brennan Johnson amid speculation Harry Kane will leave the club this summer.
Kane has long been rumoured to depart north London with his contract up next year, with Bayern Munich heavily linked with the striker.
Spurs have rejected two bids for their talisman but Bayern are confident a deal can be done and are willing to pay up to £86million for the England captain, with two of their top executives flying in for fresh talks with Daniel Levy.
Given how unwilling they have been to sell Kane, Spurs have scarcely been linked with any new strikers, aside from some tentative reports claiming they’re looking at Frankfurt’s Randal Kolo Muani
But now, according to The Athletic, they are ‘monitoring Johnson’s situation carefully’ after the forward impressed in his maiden Premier League campaign.
Though typically an attacking-midfielder, the 22-year-old plays mainly as a centre-forward for Forest, scoring 10 and assisting three in 44 games across all competitions last season.
So while not a traditional No.9, he could well complement Spurs’ other forwards like Son Heung-min and Richarlison.
They will face competition for his signature however, with Brentford recently seeing a £35m bid rejected as Forest are holding out for £50m for the Wales international.
Bees manager Thomas Frank remains a big fan of Johnson but it remains to be seen whether they will make another offer.
n all, Johnson has scored 29 goals and made 12 assists in 105 appearances for his boyhood club and has a contract until 2026.
Tottenham have already spent over £117m so far this summer, bringing in James Maddison, Guglielmo Vicario and Manor Solomon, as well as signing Pedro Porro and Dejan Kulusevski on permanent deals.

BBC Sport reported this week that Brighton have turned down the Blues’ latest bid of £80 million for the Ecuador international midfielder.
Brighton are reportedly looking for as much as £100 million for the 21-year-old defensive midfielder
Chelsea need to increase offer for Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo
In our opinion, Chelsea have to pay the £100 million transfer fee that Brighton and Hove Albion want for Moises Caicedo.
A new bid worth £86 million is not going to convince Brighton.
After all, the Seagulls have just rejected Chelsea’s latest offer of £80 million for the midfielder.
There is no way that Brighton will accept £86 million for Caicedo.
If Chelsea are determined to sign Caicedo, then they simply have to cough up the £100 million transfer fee that Brighton want.
Pre-season training is in full swing now, and the new Premier League campaign will get underway next month.
Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino needs to work with Caicedo before the season starts.
Caicedo made 34 starts and three substitute appearances in the Premier League for Brighton last season.
The 21-year-old scored one goal and gave one assist in those games.
We believe that Chelsea would be a better team with Caicedo in it.
