NEWS UPDATE: West Brom now ‘very close’ to signing Premier League star at Hawthorns

West Bromwich Albion are ‘very close’ to winning the race for a Premier League star ahead of the fast-approaching transfer deadline, it has been claimed.

West Bromwich Albion are ‘very close’ to luring Chelsea youngster Omari Hutchinson to the Hawthorns on a loan deal, journalist Simon Phillips has told GiveMeSport.

Baggies boss Carlos Corberan has set his sights on bolstering his squad ahead of the fast-approaching deadline, which comes at 11pm tonight.

West Brom transfer news – Omari Hutchinson

According to The Athletic, West Brom have emerged as the favourites to sign Hutchinson on loan for the remainder of the season.

The report suggests the Midlands outfit are set to beat a host of Championship rivals and clubs across Europe as the temporary switch will be finalised when he passes his medical.

It is understood that Wigan Athletic have also been in the hunt to land Hutchinson during the final stages of the transfer window.

Corberan has been in the market for attacking reinforcements this month and the 19-year-old has been given the green light to leave Premier League giants Chelsea on a temporary basis.

Phillips has told GiveMeSport that there has been a late rush for Hutchinson’s signature, with Watford also being among the clubs providing West Brom with competition.

What has Simon Phillips said about Hutchinson?

Phillips understands that Hutchinson is on the cusp of being unveiled as West Brom’s latest acquisition.

The journalist is aware that the Baggies’ proposal does not include an option or obligation to make the move permanent in the summer.

Phillips told GiveMeSport: “Omari Hutchinson to West Brom is very almost done now.

“It is a six-month loan deal with no option to buy. They’re leading the race and I’ve just been told now that it’s very close to being done.”

Would Hutchinson be a good signing for West Brom?

There is no doubt that Hutchinson is a threat in the final third of the pitch as, according to Transfermarkt, he has racked up 48 goal contributions while featuring for Chelsea and Arsenal at youth level.

The teenager has already enjoyed a memorable start to 2023, having been handed the first two senior appearances of his career by Chelsea head coach Graham PotterWhat a player': Omari Hutchinson in awe of Chelsea teammate's ability on the ball

Hutchinson made a lasting impression in a friendly against Aston Villa during the World Cup break, with Potter describing him as ‘dangerous’.

The attacking midfielder was handed a 9.4 match rating by Sofascore when Chelsea overcame Leyton Orient in a Football League Trophy match in October, having found the back of the net and provided two assists, so there is no doubt he would be a shrewd loan signing as West Brom look to break into the play-off places.
