Game 7 for Kroger Field season ticket holders, and coming off a road game and a bye, it will feel very good to see the Kentucky Wildcats charge into this game for a break from the SEC grind in their 10th game of the season and first against Murray State since 2018. Only one lucky FCS school gets to play UK each year, and this year, it’s the Racers.
Let’s dive into this matchup:
Kentucky vs Murray State
Date: November 16th
Time: 1:30 pm
TV Channel: SECN+ and ESPN+
Location: Kroger Field, Lexington
Series History: Kentucky leads the series 2-0-0
Kentucky has played Murray State twice in the existence of college football in the Bluegrass State, and both times won handily in Lexington — first in a 37-6 beatdown in 2003 and then 48-10 in the third win of their historic 10-win 2018 season.
The Racers are playing their second season in the Missouri Valley Football Conference, which looks a lot different than the basketball version. Six teams play both football and basketball in the Valley, while the other football schools are from the Dakotas and Youngstown State, and the other basketball schools are mostly private institutions without football programs.
As mentioned in the intro, each year, only one lucky FCS team gets to come to Kroger Field and take their best shot at the Wildcats. During the Stoops Era, the 10 teams to get invited were EKU (three times), UT-Martin (twice), Youngstown State, Chattanooga, Murray State, Austin Peay, and Alabama State.
Of Kentucky schools, EKU and Murray seem to have pretty good relations, and I guess Morehead just hasn’t gotten it done yet, as the Cats have never played the Eagles.
