As per a tweet from Belgian correspondent Sacha Tavolieri, Liverpool have sent an improved bid worth around £45m for pressing ahead with the signature of Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia.

It is revealed that works are ongoing between all parties to get the payment structure right. Personal terms are not an issue and the player is waiting to get the green signal to get his medical done ahead of the move to Liverpool. If the deal is done, the 19-year-old would fly to Singapore to be a part of the second Reds pre-season camp.

“Second bid from #Liverpool for Romeo #Lavia officially been sent this morning on a 45M£ deal, bonus included. Work’s now ongoing to find the right structure with meticulous talks to ensure that bonuses are achievable. Installments also being discussed. #SaintsFC expected to got a done deal in the next few days…

“Player’s just waiting for it and that we allow him to undergo a medical to complete the transfer so that he can be part of the summer camp in Singapore as personal terms are already agreed as announced previously.

Lavia is an exceptional young player who was Southampton’s best player despite the trip to the Championship last season. He is a defensive midfielder who can operate in a double-pivot when required.

After the impending departure of Fabinho and the confirmed exit of Jordan Henderson, Liverpool need a couple more additions to the midfield department.

Provided the Saints accept the latest bid from the Reds, Lavia would become one of the two signings required to bolster the defensive midfield area.

Once this is gotten over the line, the focus should turn towards adding another midfielder very soon. Crystal Palace’sVirgil van Dijks on the target list for the club. He has the profile of a player who would do well under Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.
