Bryan King struggles to see Aston Villa signing Dejan Kulusevski from Tottenham as a replacement for Moussa Diaby.
The ex-Villa scout can’t see Spurs allowing the 24-year-old to sign for Unai Emery’s side.
As reported by Football Transfers (20 July), Villa have enquired about signing Kulusevski as a replacement for Diaby, who looks set to join Al-Ittihad in a £50million transfer (via Fabrizio Romano, 22 July).
However, King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – doesn’t think Kulusevski will be the man to replace Diaby.
“That transfer link surprises me,” King said.
“I’m not sure if Spurs would be prepared to let him go, but if they did, he would add quality to that right-hand side for Villa.
Aston Villa to sign Dejan Kulusevski from Tottenham?
It would certainly come as quite a shock to see this transfer sanctioned by Ange Postecoglou or Daniel Levy.
Villa beat Spurs to a Champions League place last season and will have aspirations of kicking on next year and once again finishing above the North London club.
Therefore, it would be quite strange if the decision was made by Spurs to allow one of their first-team regulars to join such a direct rival in the Premier League.
It would likely cost big money for Villa, and Kulusevski hasn’t necessarily proven he is worth such a substantial fee.
He scored eight goals and provided three assists in the Premier League last season. While these aren’t bad numbers, they aren’t necessarily numbers which would convince a club to break the bank.
Therefore, this transfer might be best avoided.
In other Aston Villa news, Dan Bardell has rated the club’s chances of signing Nico Williams.
