Bristol Rovers have signed goalkeeper Matthew Hall on a two-year deal.

The 20-year-old was released by Southampton earlier this summer having featured once for the club’s under-21 side in the EFL Trophy.

Hall has previously had loan spells at non-league sides Melksham Town and Harrow Borough.

He is the second goalkeeper to join the club in as many days after Brentford’s Matt Cox moved to the Memorial Stadium on a season-long loan.

Bristol City coach allays Conway and Vyner fears as he reveals injury status of absent trio

Bristol City finished their friendly against Cheltenham Town without Tommy Conway or Zak Vyner on the field

Curtis Fleming insists Tommy Conway and Zak Vyner were withdrawn in the second half of Bristol City ’s 1-1 draw with Cheltenham Town as precautionary measures due to “niggles”, as the start of the Championship season draws nearer.

Conway was taken off in the 76th minute after dropping to the ground and looked to be in pain. The striker underwent treatment on the pitch at Whaddon Road for around two minutes and then walked off unaided before he was replaced by Marlee Francois. In the final minute, centre-back Zak Vyner jogged off the field for Josh Campbell-Slowey to play out the closing stages.

Speaking after the game, Fleming noted the game was important because City suffered “no injuries”, even in light of Conway and Vyner’s issues, before further clarifying the decisions to substitute them.

With Preston North End the visitors to Ashton Gate in just 10 days for the 2023/24 campaign curtain raiser, there seems little point for the Robins to take any risk with such key figures, as Vyner looks likely to start that game in the middle of defence while Conway is locked in a battle with Nahki Wells for the central striking berth.
