Birmingham City have agreed a £1.3million deal for Werder Bremen ace Lee Buchanan, sources have told Football Insider.

The Championship club are set to beat second-tier rivals Swansea City to the capture of the 22-year-old.

Birmingham are putting the finishing touches to the deal and it is expected to be completed in the next 24 hours.

That is a blow to Swansea, who have also pushed hard for ex-Derby star Buchanan in recent weeks.

The Mansfield-born star has racked up 70 career appearances in the Championship but is currently plying his trade for Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga.

He turned out 22 times across league and cup for the northern outfit, primarily playing on the left side of a 3-5-2 formation.

However, just three of those outings came as part of the starting lineup.

Buchanan joined Bremen on a free transfer last summer (2022) after leaving cash-strapped Derby County following their relegation from the Championship.

He primarily lined up as a left-back in a flat four-man defence during his time with the Rams, for whom he made 75 appearances after coming through the academy.

The former England Under-21 international can also play as a centre-back.

Birmingham have already completed seven summer deals following their US-backed takeover earlier this year.Lee Buchanan | Werder Bremen New Signing | Skills, Tackles & Passes - YouTube

Buchanan will be reunited with former Derby star Krystian Bielik, who has joined the Blues on a permanent basis.

Meanwhile, the St Andrews’ outfit have also wrapped up deals for Dion Sanderson, Ethan Laird, Tyler Roberts, Koji Miyoshi, Keshi Anderson and Siriki Dembélé.
